How often should I replace my air purifier filter?
Most air purifier filters should be replaced every 6–12 months, depending on how frequently you run your unit and the air quality inside your home. Homes with pets, smokers, high traffic, or seasonal allergies may require more frequent replacements.
HEPA filters gradually fill with microscopic particles that you can’t see, so even if the filter looks “clean,” it may be restricting airflow. Carbon filters that trap odors and VOCs often wear out sooner because the carbon becomes saturated over time.
Tip: If your purifier has a filter indicator light, use it as a guide. Always replace the filter sooner if you notice reduced airflow or a return of odors.
Best practice: Set a reminder or subscribe to auto-delivery so you never run your purifier with an overdue filter.
How do I know which replacement filter is compatible with my air purifier?
The easiest way is to check your purifier’s model number, which is usually found on a label on the bottom or back of the unit. Once you have the number, use our Find Your Filter tool on this page to instantly match your model with the correct replacement.
If you no longer have the original filter packaging or manual, don’t worry, compatibility is determined by:
- Brand and model number
- Filter shape and dimensions
- Filter type (HEPA, carbon, combo, or pre-filter)
We list all compatible units in each product description, and our filters are designed to fit seamlessly without gaps or airflow leaks. If you’re still unsure, our support team can confirm compatibility before you buy.
What’s the difference between HEPA filters and activated carbon filters?
HEPA and activated carbon serve two completely different purposes. Most air purifiers use both for full-spectrum air cleaning.
HEPA Filters:
- Capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns
- Best for dust, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, mold spores, and wildfire smoke particles
- Protect against respiratory irritants and allergens
- Usually replaced every 6–12 months
Activated Carbon Filters:
- Absorb odors, gases, VOCs, cooking smells, pet odors, and smoke
- Essential if you’re dealing with chemical off-gassing, wildfire season, or strong household smells
- Typically replaced every 2–6 months, depending on odor levels
Many of our replacements include a 3-in-1 filter combination that pairs both technologies for maximum purification.
